Interest-Based Work
“Adults with ADHD, however, are typically not motivated by importance, reward, or punishment. Instead, we need to have an authentic or intrinsic interest in the task or topic in order to muster the motivation we need to engage with it.”
— David Rickabaugh
As I said in the hyperfocus section, I am really only able to be productive when something is either urgent or when something really interests me. Because of this, most of my work will have something to do with something that I’m really interested in. For example, I spent a ton of time doing work for my type design directed study last semester because I was so interested in the work I was making. I’ve also done projects on Grey’s Anatomy and my time at summer camp because those are things that interest me.
